Designing jewelry was initially just a part-time hobby for Miami natives Cristina Mantilla and Duda Teixeira. As designers, devoted travelers and long-time friends, the two began making jewelry for themselves and for friends (‘just for fun!’) in 2018 without any intention of starting their own business, “éliou.” However, the morning after they launched their inaugural collection on their website (which was a small campaign that they had shot on their own), they became an overnight Instagram sensation and had received an email asking if they’d like to participate in Paris Fashion Week.Since then, the brand's ocean-inspired jewelry pieces are “all the rage on and off social media” with continued sky-rocketing sales.
Mantilla and Teixeira have made it their mission to translate their fascination with the sand and sea (and their devotion to the marine environment) into beautiful handcrafted designs – creating “a new wave of statement jewelry for the everyday.” The designers find great inspiration from the contrast between natural materials and contemporary design, and it is for this reason that their independently-owned accessory and jewelry brand “fuses the traditional with the contemporary by carefully balancing the spirit of playfulness with modern design. Each hand crafted piece is made using natural materials, ensuring no two pieces are truly alike.”
You may even recognize their playful yet elegant jewels [made of cowrie seashells, freshwater pearls, and colorful beads] on the necks, wrists, and earlobes of your favorite fashion influencers, celebrities, and musicians – including none other than Mr. Harry Styles, whose stylist requested the jewelry duo create a customized beaded necklace that read “G-O-L-D-E-N” for the artist’s newly released music video at the time.
