Acne Studios, the Stockholm-based luxury fashion house, was brought to life in 1996. The name Acne was inspired by the creative collective of ACNE (Associated Computer Nerd Enterprises), a film and mass media company. Now ACNE stands for Ambition to Create Novel Experiences. In 1997, Co-founder and Creative Director Jonny Johansson captured the attention of Vogue Paris after creating 100 pairs of jeans adorned with red stitching and gifting them to close family and friends. As you can imagine, these jeans became highly sought-after, allowing Acne to become separate from The Acne Collective in 2006 and become what we know as Acne Studios. Earning the praise of Vogue Paris for his hand-sewn raw denim changed the trajectory of the brand.

Acne Studios started successfully by opening several retail stores worldwide, including fashion cities Paris, London, and Tokyo. The time of Acne's come-up allowed the brand to hop on the e-commerce boom creating more sales possible than ever before. Acne Studios soon became a regular appearance at Paris Fashion Week, showing twice a year. Acne Studios designs ready-to-wear clothing, shoes, denim, and accessories, making it a popular choice amongst stylish celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Dua Lipa, Rihanna, and Selena Gomez.

Jonny Johansson has always thought outside the lines when marketing the luxury brand. Until 2014, Acne Studios had a biannual magazine titled Acne Paper, with every issue focusing on a different theme with various experts. This magazine allowed Jonny Johansson to channel his love for grand art, design, photography, architecture, cinema, and pop culture, which is also apparent in his clothing. Acne Studios has also released books, furniture, and exhibitions. Acne Studios would be lost without Jonny Johansson's artistic depth and curiosity.
