In the 26 years that Acne Studios has been around, the brand has stayed true to its meaning. Acne is an acronym for Ambition to Create Novel Expressions. The Swedish brand was established in 1996 by Co-Founder and Creative Director Johnny Johansson as a part of a creative collection. Acne Studios has now blossomed into one of the most well-known ready-to-wear brands. Johansson began making jeans with distinctive red stitching to give to friends and family, which ultimately launched the brand into what it is today. Years later, Acne Studios is well known for its denim, attention to detail, emphasis on tailoring, and custom-developed fabrics. Denim is not the only thing the brand does well. Johansson’s wide range of interests has contributed to the brand’s success in its ready-to-wear collection, magazines, books, exhibitions, and furniture. The collections include both men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, footwear, and, of course, denim.
